Doing all three for Jesus.
A lot of things have changed for our family over the last three weeks. Most have been external, although, God has certainly been working on our hearts. However, there are some things that have stayed the same, and I am praising the Lord for them!
The other night, we had to get some things from the store, and we sat down at the food court for a snack. I was waiting at the counter, while the kids looked for a table. Actually, it is more like a lion looking for a meal. You watch the tables and as soon as someone gets up, you run toward it, hoping you can beat anyone else that saw it! Okay, okay, it is not always that bad, but this particular time, it was. The kids found a table, but it only had four seats. Ever the gentleman, AJ claimed his, and left his sisters to find a fifth chair.
This could be a problem, was my first thought. Why? Because my typically out going girls, have been more reserved in crowded places. It is funny how not understanding anything going on around you makes you close your lips and open your ears. 🙂 So what happened next just about made me cry!
Sarah Grace noticed the empty chair at the table next to ours, and saw an older gentleman sitting across from it. She waiied him (traditional greeting), said “hello” in Thai, and motioned from the chair to our table. His smile was super BIG as he nodded yes, and Sarah Grace responded with “thank you” in Thai and smiled even BIGGER!
Next thing I know, all three of the kids are talking to him, and trying out all these different Thai words they have heard, and he is just being a huge encouragement to them. He spoke great English, (as well as Thai, Chinese, and Burmese) and he is telling them how proud he is of them for trying to learn the language and how wonderful they are doing.
So what stayed the same? My sweet girl’s heart! She has been watching and listening, and as soon as The Lord pushed, she moved!
What else stayed the same? My kids personalities. They really enjoy being around people, and they love to hear their stories, and tell their own. This is a gift from God, and I am so thankful for it because it is wonderful to watch and learn from. God has used them to build that same love in me.
And one last constant….God. He is so faithful! What an incredible blessing to watch Him work in my children’s hearts, and see Him build in them a courage and desire to serve Him. He has given them comfort, strength, and grace each step of the way, and it is humbling to realize it is only through His power we are here in Thailand!
So, while many, many things have changed, I am most thankful for those that have stayed the same!
